Welcome to skidrowtheater.com's FAQ

Q. What is Skid Row Theater all about?

A. In the summer of 2008, while unemployed, I built a movie screen on the rooftop of my building in Downtown Los Angeles to create a fun social environment to screen movies for my friends - that's it!.

Q. What should I expect?

A. A good time! Okay, okay... Expect to park your car on the streets of Skid Row and enjoy a movie on my rooftop! (Being in Skid Row is not as scary as it may sound. I've never had any problems here, but there are homeless people all around - this is not Beverly Hills or Brentwood! I'm used to them, and they are harmless, but you probably aren't used to them... again, they are harmless. I suggest that you Carpool or take the Metro - The Pershing Square stop is only a few blocks away!) Expect about 20-30 friendly people to be here - talk to them - most of them don't bite! Bring a JACKET/BLANKET, as it can get CHILLY at night!

Q. What time does the movie start?

A. I usually play about 20 min of pre-show cartoons/videos while everyone adjusts their chairs and gets settled in, then start the movie. Some people consider this the highlight of the evening, so you don't want to miss it! The show starts when it gets dark - around 8:30-9:00 these days.

Q. Who is welcome (can I invite all my friends)?

A. If you've met me, you are welcome! As for inviting your friends... YES, they are welcome too! (If you are inviting 20 of your friends, please give me a heads-up!).

Q. What should I bring?

A. Bring snacks, drinks, a JACKET/BLANKET and anything else that will make you comfortable. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE - YOU'RE GOING TO WANT A JACKET/BLANKET! I have 20 or so chairs on the roof, but not enough seat-cushions for all of them. Lots of people seem to bring their own beach chairs, so if you have one, BRING IT! (I hear they are more confortable than some of my chairs!)

Q. What does it cost?

A. Zip, zilch, nada, nothing! This is a social event for my friends, NOT a business! (I do like hugs!)

Q. Where is the theater?

A. It's on my rooftop! If you know me, you should know where I live! If you don't know my address... ask!

Q. How the heck did you make that screen?

A. Magic! Well, it's actually made from Hollaender Speed-Rail. I designed the frame myself and bought all the pipe and fittings from IMS.

Q. How do I keep up to date with what movie you are showing when? (Do you have a mailing list or something?)

A. Yes, I have a mailing list - you can find out how to join it on the CONTACT page.

Q. Who designed this magical website?

A. My good friend, Amy Cromartie designed this site. (Thanks Amy!!!)

Q. What movies have you shown in the past?

A. A Clockwork Orange, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, Wargames, Red Dawn, Grease, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Payback: Straight Up - The Director's Cut, Sleepy Hollow, Better Off Dead, Top Gun, Sin City, Star Wars IV: A New Hope, Jacob's Ladder, Boogie Nights, The Big Lebowski, GhostBusters, Blade Runner, Enter the Dragon, Beetlejuice, Hot Tub Time Machine, Zombieland, Black Dyanimite, The Princess Bride...

Q. Can I suggest a movie for the future?

A. YES! Send me an email!
